Output Valves

A comparison of the power output valves used in our amplifiers

The EL84 valve [employed in the "Expressionist" series amps]

EL84's are famous for their chimey tops, complex midrange, and lively dynamic response; EL84's are arguably the most detailed and complex output valves ever used in guitar amp designs.

The EL34 valve [employed in the "Rich Tone" and "Blue Mood" amps]

If classic Brit-flavoured tones are your thing then the EL34 option will appeal; the tougher and more assertive sounding EL34's provide more low-mid push and impact than the lighter and more delicate sounding EL84's; while trying to avoid sweeping generalisations, the EL34 is great for blues rockers who like the soft, quick break-up and tight bass.

The 6V6 valve [employed in the "Rich Tone" and "Blue Mood" amps]

6V6 valves are the ones that were typically used in the smaller Fender and Gibson amps; they are noted for sounding smooth and sweet; we much prefer their distortion characteristics to their somewhat glassier 6L6 big brothers.

the KT66 valve [employed in the "Rich Tone" and "Blue Mood" amps]

As compared to the standard 6L6 type valves, the KT66 tops are not as brittle or harsh;more defined & bigger bass, which sounds attached to the mids, NOT separated from them; MUCH better mids, which "sing" as they overdrive, do not get "mushy"; overall better saturation, which comes in smoother than the 6L6.
